The Highfield breeding program continues to produce winners for new connections
At Highfield Stock Farm, the goal of a breeding program extends well beyond the horses racing in Highfield’s own colours.
When a Highfield-bred Thoroughbred leaves the farm and begins a new chapter with another owner, we continue to follow its journey and we’re proud whenever those horses find success on the racetrack.
One example is Wedge Pond, an eight-year-old gelding bred by Highfield Investment Group.
A son of Highfield’s former stallion Cape Canaveral, Wedge Pond has built an impressive racing career since leaving the Highfield program. Now racing for owner Scott Love and trained by Jason Coney, the Alberta-bred gelding continues to demonstrate the durability and consistency that Highfield strives to produce.
On May 16, 2026, Wedge Pond returned to the winner’s circle at Century Mile, winning a $8,500 claiming race by a length and a quarter.
The victory was the latest in a long and productive career. Through 48 starts, Wedge Pond has recorded 15 wins, 11 seconds and four thirds, earning nearly $190,000 on the track.
For Highfield, results like these are especially rewarding.
A successful breeding program isn’t measured only by the horses that remain on the farm. It’s also measured by the horses that go on to succeed with new owners, new trainers and new connections.
From Alberta-bred champions to horses continuing to compete years after leaving the farm, Highfield is proud to see its horses making their mark throughout Western Canadian racing.
